Grant is provided under the Support to Tertiary Education project (6740309) to the Student Assistance Fund of the Desmond Tutu Educational Trust to finance certain costs for disadvantaged black South Africans students studying at tertiary educational institutions. The Trust will select proposals from institutions that are committed to the education of black South Africans. While specific proposals may vary, the grant will mainly finance: (1) student assistantships and work-study programs; (2) tutoring, including remedial education and preparatory programs to help black students overcome the effects of previous educational disadvantages; (3) counseling and orientation; and (4) textbooks and study aids. Both undergraduate and graduate students will be eligible.
