Grant is provided to World Association for Children and Parents (WACAP) to provide comprehensive permanency planning services to institutionalized children and to children in maternity hospitals who are at risk of abandonment in Judet Arges, Romania. WACAP will implement permanent plans for 381 children under age 12 in institutions or maternity hospitals in Judet Arges. While still institutionalized, the children will benefit from: developmental assessments; structured educational activities and individual attention from educators and volunteers, including the establishment of development goals for each child; and nutritional supplements and growth monitoring. Written plans will be developed and implemented, either working toward returning the child home to the birth family, or toward alternative family placement within Romania or internationally through the Rumanian Committee for Adoptions. Social services will be provided to those families planning to parent their child. Support and transition services will also be given to children being placed in adoption.
