Grant is provided under the Regional Rehabilitation and Prosthetics Project to Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation to support operation of its prosthetics clinic in Kien Khleang, Cambodia. The project is a component of the broader Cambodian PVO Humanitarian Assistance Program initiated by USAID in 1990. Grant funds will be used to (1) finance the production of 810 prosthetic legs and 36 prosthetic arms for Cambodians who have suffered amputations as a result of land mine accidents; (2) train 9 Cambodians in the manufacturing and fitting of the Jaipur limb, a locally produced prosthesis excellently suited to the Cambodian culture; and (3) sponsor a workshop to train 10 Cambodians (4-5 of whom will continue to work at the clinic) in the technology of building wheelchairs. The project also includes a fish farm program as therapeutic assistance for amputees in the process of rehabilitation.
