Research by Thailand Department of Fisheries Stations and Research Units has developed cultures for use in hatcheries, rice fields, ponds, cages, pens and irrigation ditches that can be utilized in rapid expansion of fish production as irrigation water is made widely available from Mekong impoundments. They have also determined the feeding habits of many indigenous species to facilitate selection of species capable of utilizing the various types of natural fish-food organisms in various habitants.
