OPG to the Haitian Association of Voluntary Agencies (HAVA) to strengthen its capacity as a coordinating entity representing all PVO”s working in Haiti. The grant supports salaries, equipment, operating expenses, and establishment of a subgrant mechanism for smaller PVO”s. The grant will enable HAVA to strengthen its clearinghouse activities, develop and maintain an inventory and capability assessment of PVO”s operating in Haiti, coordinate its membership activities with other PVO consortia, and coordinate the distribution of donated equipment to member PVO”s. HAVA will also fund a liaison position at the Florida Association of Voluntary Agencies (FAVA) to improve relations between HAVA and FAVA, coordinate U.S. donations, and raise funds to augment PVO subgrants. Fundraising and public relations campaigns will be implemented to ensure HAVA”s financial viability. HAVA”s five technical committees (Health and Social Services, Water and Sanitation, Small Business and Handicrafts, Education, and Agriculture), and its Emergency Preparedness/Disaster Assistance Monitoring Unit will conduct seminars, workshops, and studies; produce and publish manuals and reports; catalog Haitian products; and carry out a wide variety of other development support activities. Finally, a subgrant fund of $50,000 will be established for use by HAVA”s smaller members; guidelines specifying activities, eligibility, and procedures will be developed.
