The project, which constitutes the fourth component of the umbrella Democratic Initiatives project, will be implemented via a buy-in to the Regional Legislative Development Project (5980770). There will be four activities. (1) To strengthen the legislative development process, the project will sponsor an orientation workshop for the Permanent Committee for Legislative Development and sponsor a study visit to a Latin American legislature. (2) Institutional linkages will be improved via support for internship programs for legislators at the Universities of Panama and of Santa Maria la Antigua, and attendance of legislators and staff at international meetings and conferences. (3) A series of workshops will be held for legislators and staff covering the budgetary process, policy analysis, constituent services, media relations, and legislative techniques and technologies. (4) The project will support implementation of a computerized legislative information system.
