Abstract
grants through: public education programs, TA to industries, training of commuunity development organizations, and creation of a documentation center. FN will develop three programs to increase awareness of environmental issues and motivation for protecting natural resources. The first aims to educate the entire population through conferences, community gatherings, pamphlets, and the mass media. Specific activities will include: studies to assess current environmental awareness; design, production, and dissemination of audience-specific educational materials; and training of community workers in isolated areas. The second program will target the formal and informal educational systems. FN will conduct studies and surveys on the state of environmental education; provide training in environmental education techniques for teachers throughout the country; develop and submit to the Ministry of Education institutionalized curricula for specific education levels; and conduct follow-ups to determine if project-developed educational materials are being used properly. The third program will aim to increase awareness among public leaders and to develop dialogue between public and private sector environmental decisionmakers. FN will offer TA to industries that have potential for causing environmental damage. Information packages on environmental protection technologies will be produced and sent to 2,000 targeted industries. Industry reaction to the information will be elicited. Training in identifying and resolving environmental problems will be provided to administrative and technical personnel within community development organizations. Activities will include assessing the organizations" environmental interests and education needs, designing training courses and materials, and evaluating training results. Finally, FN will establish an environmental and natural resource information and documentation center. Periodic announcements of the center"s services will be released to the public.
