Abstract

This examination indicated that the introduction of alternative mortgage instruments (AMI"s) might significantly improve borrower affordability and lender protection in the industry. This report explores the effects on Bulgarian borrowers and lenders of introducing AMI"s, and addresses specific concerns raised about the products by management at the Bulgarian National Bank, State Savings Bank, and Bulgarian Post Bank.
