Abstract
A market linkage facilitation program was established to connect farmers with buyers and provide training on market requirements. This program resulted in a significant increase in sales for participating farmers, with some reporting a 50% increase in revenue. In addition to the agricultural interventions, the initiative also included a component focused on improving access to finance for smallholder farmers. A microfinance program was established to provide loans to farmers at affordable interest rates. This program helped to increase access to credit for farmers, allowing them to invest in their businesses and improve their livelihoods. The initiative also included a component focused on improving access to information for smallholder farmers. A mobile phone-based platform was established to provide farmers with access to market information, weather forecasts, and other relevant data. This platform helped to improve farmers' decision-making and increase their productivity. The initiative was implemented in partnership with local organizations and government agencies. The Rwanda Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources played a key role in the initiative, providing technical support and resources to farmers. Local organizations, such as the Rwanda Farmers' Association, also played a key role in the initiative, providing training and support to farmers. The initiative was funded by USAID's Food Security Program, which provided financial support to the initiative. The program also provided technical assistance and capacity building support to the initiative's implementing partners. The initiative's impact was evaluated through a series of surveys and assessments conducted throughout the project period. The evaluations showed that the initiative had a significant impact on the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, improving their income and food security. The initiative also helped to improve access to markets and finance for smallholder farmers, increasing their productivity and competitiveness. The initiative's success was attributed to the strong partnerships established between the implementing partners, the government, and local organizations. The initiative's focus on improving access to markets, finance, and information for smallholder farmers also played a key role in its success.
