Abstract
ACPM is still evolving. Most functions, including the selling of marine products for the fishermen/members have been operational only since 3/81. A great rise in fish production is due to assistance provided by ACPM in obtaining equipment, prompt payment, fair to generous prices, and in purchasing all types of fresh fish. New customers have been acquired; a successful revolving credit fund has helped more than 20 fishermen; and training programs are planned. ACPM is in a strong position financially and has plans to expand facilities and products, personnel, and technical assistance. The USAID/D fisheries development project, with a crucial input of managerial and monetary control, has helped ACPM become viable. However, there is still need for experienced supervisory staff and management systems. In addition, the handling and storage of fish should be upgraded; appropriate accounting/reporting systems installed (a possible project for USAID/D); and a reserve fund for new equipment developed.
