fruit and vegetable production/marketing project in that country. Audit report consists of a summary memorandum attached to an ex post audit of the Cooperative by a Guatemalan public accounting firm. In the opinion of the Guatemalan firm, the Cooperative"s financial statements do not fairly represent the Cooperative"s financial position. Finding the Cooperative"s system of internal controls to be non-functional, the firm believes that the Cooperative has not complied with all the applicable Guatemalan laws, regulations, and agreements. The firm"s report contains 18 recommendations to improve the Cooperative"s internal controls and 7 recommendations to achieve compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and agreements. Although the project under which the Cooperative was helped is now completed, it is possible that the Cooperative may receive TA from A.I.D. in the future. It is recommended that such TA should include implementation of the above-noted recommendations. (Author abstract, modified)
