Abstract
The FSA has been successful in achieving its goals and has helped many Tunisian farmers increase production. FSA management has improved considerably, despite problems encountered during the beginning of the project. Some 4,500 projects (for a total amount of 5,791,574 Dinars or $12,000,000) have been financed through the FSA by the Banque Nationale de Tunisie (BNT). Loans, which ranged from 200 to 20,000 Dinars, have been used to purchase agricultural equipment and livestock, construct and improve farm buildings, and expand well drilling, as well as for irrigation, soil conservation, and tree planting projects and for land improvement, poultry, and fishing activities. A.I.D. has also helped the BNT to organize its lending operations by providing a Financial Management Advisor.
