Abstract
Percentage of citizens who report being satisfied with public services provided in targeted districts. 2. Percentage of citizens who perceive that increased citizen engagement leads to better service delivery. USAID requested a sample large enough to be representative for each of the 13 regions covered by the four USAID/Tanzania activities assessed, as well as for urban and rural areas within each region. The household survey was conducted by a competitively selected firm, Economic Development Initiatives, and the National Bureau of Statistics was engaged throughout the process from research clearance, through collaboration in training and supporting quality control. For Indicator 1, the survey found that 67 percent of respondents across the full sample are satisfied or very satisfied with the services currently provided by their local government in general. The difference between urban and rural areas is statistically significant with a 95 percent confidence interval, with 68 percent very satisfied/satisfied in urban areas and 61 percent very satisfied/satisfied in rural areas. For Indicator 2, 82 percent of respondents across the full sample reported that they agree or strongly agree that when citizens participate in civic activities the government improves services in their village/mtaa.
