Best practices in working with local NGOs

The purpose of this study was to identify approaches in which USAID, prime recipients and their sub-recipient relationships, strategies and tactics can support the growth and strengthening of local institutions.

Abstract

The lessons learned and best practices identified will support USAID/Tanzania"s Human and Institutional Capacity Development (HICD) activity under the US President"s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) program. In addition to recommendations on how USAID/Tanzania can refine its current and future awards to facilitate capacity building of local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the study also considers how local government authorities (LGAs) can be more involved in sustaining these local entities.
