Abstract
The program focuses on the Est region, where the security situation has negatively impacted the educational system. Threats and attacks against teachers and schools, starting in January 2020, have led to the closure of many schools due to a lack of teaching staff or intimidation by violent extremist organizations (VEOs). Despite the risks, some teachers have opted to stay in the area. To address the situation, BFRP collaborated with the Provincial Department of Education to train 50 teachers on personal security and resilience. The training program focused on building teachers' ability to remain safe during attacks or threats, including techniques such as maintaining a low profile or hiding safely. One teacher noted that the training was essential in strengthening their knowledge of violent extremism and providing guidance on how to stay safe in different security scenarios. In addition to the training, a forum will be organized between the trained teachers and members of parents' associations and school management committees to share their knowledge and promote social inclusion. In the Sahel region, BFRP collaborated with a local association to organize a soccer tournament aimed at bringing communities together and addressing issues of instability. During the tournament, community leaders, representatives of ethnic and religious groups, and members of civil society organizations discussed how to respond to the continued degradation of security in the region. A community action committee was established to amplify messages of peace and cohesion over the radio. Several community leaders recorded messages of peace that were broadcast across the region, emphasizing the importance of social cohesion and peaceful coexistence. The BFRP's efforts in the Est and Sahel regions aim to promote social inclusion and mitigate the effects of violence and insecurity. By targeting strategic communities and engaging with local leaders and organizations, the program seeks to promote peace and stability in the region. The program's focus on personal security and resilience training for teachers and community leaders is critical in addressing the security challenges facing the region. The BFRP's activities in the Sahel region have also highlighted the importance of community-led initiatives in promoting social inclusion and peace. The soccer tournament and subsequent community action committee demonstrate the potential for community-led initiatives to bring people together and promote social cohesion. By supporting these initiatives, the BFRP aims to promote a more stable and peaceful environment in the region.
