Abstract
The handbook is attached to a PES (PD-AAI-426-A1). Topics covered in the handbook examine how a case study is developed through assessment of field usage of appropriate technology information. Both the users themselves and the actual applications of the information are studied, and user profiles are developed to identify case study prospects according to guidelines agreed upon by directors of the cooperating Latin American agencies. Other topics include conducting the case study interview and developing a follow-up strategy. There follows a section which presents 12 completed case studies in South Asia and Latin America. For each case, the authors explain the particular application of technical information to development, identify the document(s) which proved most useful, and propose alternate methods. Emphasis is placed on developing means to facilitate technology transfer. A section on case studies currently in progress presents 27 examples of proposed projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. Follow-up is required to see if the projects" objectives are met. The handbook concludes with a list of NTIS appropriate technology reports and a directory of the network"s participating agencies.
