Using Kalyan 227 wheat grown on soils low in exchangeable K+ a small response to added potash was observed.
Stilwell, Thomas C. · 1970

Abstract
X-ray diffraction analyses showed large amounts of illitic minerals in the soils. Extraction with H2SO4 indicated a large reserve of K+ in the soil. Even though the NH40Ac exchangeable K+ was not sufficient for a wheat crop, enough K+ was released to provide adequate levels of K+ throughout the growing season.
