CityLinks primer on subnational approaches for low emission, climate resilient development

It is designed to be used by local government officials, development practitioners and international donor organizations pursuing projects with this aim at the community and regional levels. As context, it notes that more than half the world"s population now lives in cities and urban populations are expanding rapidly and contributing to dramatic increases in carbon emissions. Climate change impacts on cities, in turn, are becoming more common and last longer. Urban areas are threatened by sea level rise, intense flooding from stronger storms and, in regions with prolonged droughts, city water supplies are dwindling. The primer gives an overview on concepts and approaches that can help cities build resilience to climate change while cutting emissions and powering growth through the use of clean energy sources. It includes examples of best practices in cities in developing countries. It also gives resources and organizations that can provide more in-depth guidance on planning and implementation.
