Abstract
with information on the application of communications technology to development problems. Special PES covers the period 1/a/77-6/16/78 and is based on an attached special evaluation (DOCID: B9310925011701) in which a five-person team from A.I.D. and the Academy for Educational Development, the implementing agency, reviewed project documents and interviewed CDC staff. CDC has exceeded its contractual requirements by delivering a quarterly newsletter, providing reference services, and maintaining a collection of documents. CDC services have greatly assisted other A.I.D. activities by providing reliable, quality information. The increasing importance of communications technology and the special needs of a seminar program in this field will require expanded informational services. To meet this need, CDC activities should be strengthened by: (1) further staff participation in appropriate professional meetings; (2) increasing travel to missions and LDC institutions; (3) improving audience and problem definition; and (4) making reporting services more analytical. The project has taught that a development communications service, when based on a staff with broad experience in the development communications field, is valuable to A.I.D. programs and that benefits increase proportionately with staff exposure to current development activities.
