Abstract
Following a brief inroduction, Section II overview the CP"s achievements and mentions some limitations of these surveys in the field. Section III stresses that appropriate fertility variables need to be chosen and given special prominence; considerations which underlie such choice and status-elevation are explained. Sections IV-XV present an item-wise analysis of what already exists in the CPS questionnaire, reports, and sample design, together with a discussion of changes that could be made in future CPS"s. Finally, the main results obtained and important suggestions based thereon are summarized in Section XVI. (Author abstract, modified)
