Abstract
The name of the game is competition and competitiveness. Free trade requires good macroeconomic management and microeconomic efficiency (development of a firm"s competitive edge). The paper describes good policy as matching social and private profitability. Free trade requires both private and public entrepreneurship. A new role for the state is discussed. (Author abstract)
