This child survival program is designed to create a vertically and horizontally integrated network of health care able to provide essential obstetric and neonatal care services based on evidence-based practices to the population of Cotopaxi, a very indigenous and poor province in the Ecuadorian highlands.

Abstract
The program aims to reduce maternal mortality through quality improvement activities at health facilities and innovative and culturally sensitive interventions at the community level, in order to connect the formal Ecuadorian health system with community health workers, county health promoters, and traditional indigenous birth attendants.
