Project to develop engineering standards and criteria for the use of laterite and other problem tropical soils in the construction of roads, highways, and airfields.
1971

Abstract
The project will be implemented in three stages -- Phase I in Thailand, Phase II in Ghana, and Phase III in a Latin American country. Specific objectives are to: (1) develop an engineering definition and a classification system for laterite and other problem soils; (2) evaluate their engineering characteristics, determining the range of physical, chemical, and geological conditions for each classification; (3) establish standard methods of testing laterite materials for design and construction control; and (4) assist selected highway departments in constructing test roads using these materials.
