USAID. OFC. OF WOMEN IN DEVELOPMENT
Project to help the U.S.-based National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) develop a systematic international program by establishing an International Division (ID).
1975
Abstract
The ID will identify all current activities being carried out by NCNW"s 26 affiliates and will establish a Resource Center in Washington, D.C. This Center will contain data collected from contributing organizations and experts (including a Talent Bank of 2,000-3,000 names), from a review of relevant literature, and from project experience. In addition, ID personnel will make at least six 45-day field trips to LDC"s, especially Africa, in order to survey the status of women and the development process, enhance linkages with LDC women"s organizations, and develop regional strategies which will be applied in country-specific projects. Up to 12 debriefings, to which selected PVO"s and affiliates will be invited, will be held following these trips. During the life of the project, three pilot projects will be designed and implemented, and three LDC resource centers will be established; these however, will not be funded by the present Development Program Grant. The ID will also develop an evaluation system including quantified goal achievement indicators for the three pilot projects as well as for future projects; the system will employ independent evaluators and will be headed initially by at least one professional. Other ID activities will include, inter alia, providing inservice training in international development to NCNW staff and leadership conferences for volunteer technicians and for the 15-member International Advisory Board to be established during the project; developing training materials and guidelines and other tools for project development; and documenting project experiences. The development program will be implemented by 8 professionals - 6 ID staff members and 2 Program Developers/Field Coordinators - as well as by consultant and volunteer TA.
