Abstract
Although no new participants joined the program in FY 1981, staff spent the first quarter of the year finalizing placements for the largest number of U.S.-based students ever - 54 Associates and Bachelor degree candidates. As of 9/20/81, there were 117 continuing participants, in all were scheduled to complete their training by FY 1984. All 40 Cape Verde students are studying in the United States. Guinea Bissau"s 66 students are divided among the United States (31), Portugal (29), Africa (3), and Brazil (3). Six participants from Sao Tome and Prinicipe are in the United States and five are in Portugal. During the year, staff also sought to expand student-related services in the areas of cross-cultural exchange and to locate relevant internships for students. A follow-up study on returned trainees is being planned for FY 1982. Finally, it is recommended that all U.S.-bound participants receive their language training in the United States.
