Abstract
The program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in partnership with three main subcontractors, including the University of Arizona (UA) and Inclusive Development Partners (IDP). The primary objective of DISP is to provide a range of solutions to support the education sector in Burma, including new scholarship initiatives, expansion of existing scholarships, and grants under contract (GUCs) for basic and higher education initiatives. The program aims to increase access and quality of education in Burma, particularly for marginalized individuals and groups. DISP will work with a wide range of stakeholders in Burma and the region to establish a range of full-service scholarship opportunities that enable diverse Burmese citizens from vulnerable backgrounds to access higher education opportunities through various modalities, including virtual learning, in-person, and hybrid options. The program will integrate activities to ensure that scholars have a unique experience, including leadership and alumni activities, to enable them to put their skills into practice and contribute to their communities. The program will provide a range of scholarship opportunities, including scholarships for undergraduate and graduate studies, research grants, and research assistantships. The scholarships will be awarded to students from diverse backgrounds, including those from rural areas, ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities. The program will also provide support for scholars to participate in internships, research projects, and community service activities. The GUCs program will facilitate a broad range of activities for basic and higher education, including teacher training, curriculum development, and educational infrastructure development. The program will also support the development of inclusive education policies and practices that promote diversity, equity, and access. The program will be implemented over a period of five years, from August 16, 2018, to August 15, 2023. The total contract amount is $45,500,000, with a budget of $9,100,000 per year. The program will be managed by the IIE, with the support of the three main subcontractors, including the University of Arizona (UA) and Inclusive Development Partners (IDP). The program will have a significant impact on the education sector in Burma, particularly for marginalized individuals and groups. The program will increase access and quality of education, promote diversity, equity, and access, and support the development of inclusive education policies and practices. The program will also contribute to the development of a more inclusive and equitable society in Burma.
