Abstract
The training programs emphasized the importance of crop rotation, composting, and conservation tillage to improve soil fertility and reduce erosion. The plots also served as a platform for farmers to share knowledge and best practices. This may be attributed to the fact that women-headed households tend to have more limited access to resources and credit, making the adoption of new practices more challenging. However, the initiative's focus on women-headed households helped to address these disparities and promote more equitable access to resources. The evaluation also highlighted the importance of infrastructure development in facilitating market access and improving farmers' ability to sell their produce. The initiative's focus on infrastructure development, including the construction of roads and storage facilities, helped to reduce transportation costs and increase farmers' access to markets. The initiative's success can be attributed to its comprehensive approach, which addressed both the technical and market access challenges faced by farmers. By providing training and support to farmers, improving infrastructure, and facilitating market access, the initiative helped to improve crop yields, increase household income, and enhance food security in Rwanda. The initiative's focus on women-headed households also helped to promote more equitable access to resources and address the disparities faced by this group.
