Abstract
Vincent, Barbados, Dominica and St. Lucia to assist the eastern Caribbean Islands to recover from damages sustained during Hurricane Allen (8/80). Project will consist of three components -- agriculture, housing, and infrastructure repair. The largest of the components will be the agriculture component, under which funds will be provided to WINBAN and CARDI. WINBAN will use these funds to purchase agriculture inputs -- primarily fertilizers, fungicides, and nematocides -- and distribute them to banana farmers on the islands of St Vincent, Barbados, Dominica, and St. Lucia. CARDI will likewise receive funds for the purchase and distribution of seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs to accelerate food crop production on the islands. Under the second component, grant funds will be provided to the Governments of St. Vincent, Barbados, and St. Lucia to rebuild and repair damaged homes. The third component will consist of a grant to the Government of St. Vincent (GOV) to repair the reclamation area sea wall in Kingstown, the sewage outfall structure in Kingstown, and the Gorse River erosion control facility in the village of Gorse. In addition, A.I.D. will provide two engineering consultants to evaluate the GOV"s repair program. The GOV will provide materials (rock and land fill), labor, and consultative services.
