Abstract
firms, is hampered by both a severe energy shortage (primarily electricity) and the inefficient use of energy. To address these inefficiencies, wide-scale use of energy auditing instruments (EAIs) and energy audits is required. This report, intended for both U.S. EAI manufacturers and Indian energy professionals, reviews: (1) the current status of EAI ownership by Indian engineering consulting firms; (2) the business climate and tax structure in India; (3) barriers in the Indian EAI market; (4) how the commonly used EAIs operate and are applied; (5) the types, technical specifications, and costs of the EAIs available in India; and (6) the addresses and contact names of some of the Indian firms currently manufacturing and distributing EAIs. A directory provides examples of currently available EAIs, concentrating on the 13 that are mostly common used: anemometer; combustion analyzer; ultrasonic flow meter; humidity and temperature meter; light meter; multimeter; pH meter; watt meter, power meter, and power analyzer; power factor meter; ultrasonic stream trap tester; stroboscopic tachometer; infrared non-contact temperature sensor; and contact thermometers.
