Project to provide the Government of Pakistan (GOP) with foreign exchange to import commodities and equipment in support of its Sixth Energy Plan.

Abstract
The Ministry of Planning and Development will be the GOP"s lead implementing agency. The project will finance both the foreign exchange and local costs of importing equipment in five major categories: energy conservation and fuel conversions; power sector; coal mining and processing; renewable energy systems; and oil and gas exploration. First year funding will be divided evenly between the private and public sectors; subsequent allocations will be determined on the basis of implementation experience. Eligible participants will include all Pakistani private sector companies, all GOP entities with direct responsibilities in energy resources development, and the 70 public sector companies operating within the Ministry of Production; nationalized and semi-autonomous firms will be ineligible.
