Abstract
Unfortunately, this means that increasing rates of environmental degradation are likely. The purpose of this book is to provide information to tourism developers about how to avoid unnecessary environmental problems from coastal tourism development. Chapters describe important coastal processes and ecosystems in Sri Lanka and relate these to development and its potential impacts. Building considerations such as setbacks, landscaping, siting, septic tank and water-well placement, and waste disposal are reviewed. References are provided.
