Abstract
In general, the results of an Environmental Information Service"s (EIS) Performance Evaluation Survey indicate a high degree of satisfaction among the users of the network with the information delivered by the EIS. For example, 43% of survey respondents stated that the information provided was "very relevant" to their specific needs; 40% stated it was "relevant;" and the remaining 18% said it was "too early to tell." Ninety three percent declared that the level of detail of the information provided was "just right;" the remaining 7% (2 cases), declared that the information was "too detailed." Seventy seven percent of the respondents declared that more than three people in their office had the chance to read the information provided. The remaining 23% said that only one or two people had access to it. Thirty two percent responded that the information provided by the EIS had been used for background or reference material; 27% used the information for problem analysis or evaluation; 14% used the information for policy formulation, and the remaining 27% indicated that the information was used for problem definition (13%) and environmental literacy (14%). The EIS requested suggestions for the improvement of the Service, and 62% of the comments received were praise and thank you notes. (Author abstract)
