Abstract
Social insurance, however, often creates equity, coverage, and institutional problems in health care. This study examines the concept of social financing, particularly economic and equity factors, as well as types of health insurance and their possible application to the health financing concerns of developing countries. Case study summaries offer information and variables concerning all aspects of health insurance in developing countries. A chronological review of health insurance development in the United States is used to offer additional data on financing sources, strategies, and analyses. (Author abstract, from PN-ABY-621)
