Final evaluation of a component of a Child Survival Grant 5 (1989-95) to Save the Children Federation (SCF) to support PVOs involved in child survival projects by distributing lessons learned and materials to the field and by upgrading the SCF health management information system (MIS) and making it available to other PVOs.

Abstract
Over the course of the project, SCF produced and distributed to other PVOs a large number of working papers, publications, workshop reports, and manuals, thereby enabling the PVOs to benefit from SCF's considerable experience and expertise in population-based health programming. Under the MIS subcomponent, SCF developed ProMIS, a computer software program to facilitate management and analysis of large volumes of population-based data. ProMIS has already gone through several modifications, the most recent of which has made the software program both flexible and adaptable; SCF field programs that have utilized ProMIS have found it useful and affordable. Other PVOs, both U.S. and third world, have expressed interest in ProMIS, but have yet to receive it, since a few modifications are still needed. The need for ProMIS makes it imperative that a means be found to ensure its wide use, especially by local PVOs involved in community-based integrated health programming. Recommendations address these needs and the means for achieving them.
