The general purpose of the evaluation was to assess the degree to which the Conservation and Sustainable Tourism Program (CSTP) has contributed to progress toward its stated goal, objectives, and intermediate results.
2013
Abstract
The efficacy and success of the CSTP interventions are evaluated, as well as the overall approach of the program for the development and conservation of the environment and the generation of employment. In addition, the evaluation identifies conclusions, recommendations and lessons learned from the key areas and objectives of the program, such as: (1) fostering development of SMEs; (2) adoption of more sustainable environmental practices; (3) improving the competitiveness of the sector through tourism; (4) increasing the participation of women; and (5) improving the commercialization of tourism services in the northern region of Nicaragua. The evaluation attempts to respond a central question: To what point did the program contribute to an increase in employment and the adoption of good environmental practices in the targeted areas and groups? To a great extent, the results and achievements are measured in terms of indicators and objectives at the level of intermediate results and changes in the key indicators of the program, and are based on various sources of data and information.
