Final report on the systematics of aquatic weevils to enhance biological control of aquatic weeds (Coleoptera : Curculionidae)
Sign inFLORIDA AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL UNIVERSITY
The main objectives of the study were to develop a cladistic analysis and a key to the genera of the New World Stenopelmini (aquatic weevils), Erirhininae, and to revise the species of the genera Neohydronomous, Argentinorynchus, and Onychylis to enable the use of selected weevils as potential biological control agents of exotic weeds.

Abstract
As a result of the study, the number of known genera has been doubled from 20 to 40, and approximately 25 new species have been described in published papers. More than 25 new host plant associations have been verified in the field in South America. The data are vital to successful biological weed control programs. (Author abstract, from PN-ABK-546)
