As we draw to the end of One Acre Fund and USAID’s partnership in late June 2021, we are deeply grateful for USAID’s financial and analytic support in driving greater productivity and resilience for Malawi and Uganda’s hard-working farm families.

Abstract
Our four-year partnership was structured to realize the following goals: (i) Scale our program model in new areas of Malawi and Uganda following successful pilot seasons (ii) Support innovations within our program to adapt to the unique conditions in these two countries (iii) Drive improved financial sustainability1 through scale and efficiency gains2 (iv) Support continuous program improvement via stakeholder engagement (v) Increase fundraising revenue at a healthy pace in these markets, with a strong evidence base and complementary, earned revenue as we bridge to higher financial sustainability (vi) Implement a new HRIS and Business Intelligence System. USAID’s catalytic support has enabled us to triple our combined scale across both countries, growing to over 68,000 farm families by year-end 2020. Over the course of our partnership, we have achieved a combined average farmer repayment rate of 91.3%. We have also diversified crop portfolios in both programs, with non-maize offerings such as pulses, vegetables, bananas, and tree seeds as well as cash crops like coffee, groundnuts and rice. We remain grateful for USAID’s thoughtfulness as we paused growth in both countries in 2019 to focus on improving operational performance.
