Abstract
(Cooperative for American Relief Everywhere) to assist Ecuador"s Ministry of Health (MOH) to increase the effectiveness of its leche-avena (milk-oat) complementary food program. The purpose of that program is to alleviate malnutrition in infants, pre-school children, and pregnant and lactating women. CARE will provide the MOH with two packing machines for its leche-avena processing plant at El Beaterio. These packing machines will have the capacity to process two or more tons of leche-avena per hour. CARE will also supply a 7l liter conveyor belt to transport raw materials from the warehouse to the plant and back. In addition, CARE will assign technical advisors to train MOH personnel to operate the new equipment. In turn, the MOH will finance the construction of two 1,000 sq meter warehouses as well as personnel costs to support the expanded operation.
