Gangs in Honduras

This report is an overview of Honduran street gangs, with a specific focus on the country’s two main gangs, the Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS13) and the Barrio 18.

Abstract

The these two gangs’ modus operandi, structure, criminal economies, recruitment strategies, rules and core ethos. It is based on field research in gang controlled areas in Honduras; interviews with gang members, community members, victims of gang violence, and security officials; and a review of numerous court cases against gang members.
