Abstract
The project focuses on improving child health, growth, and development, promoting community-based reproductive health, and integrated family care. The project also aims to empower communities and families to advocate for improved quality of primary health services. The project was launched in 2010, and the reporting period covers October 1, 2010, to December 31, 2010. The project team conducted a start-up workshop on October 4-7, 2010, to present the project goals and objectives to key partners and community-based organizations. The workshop aimed to introduce the project approaches and design, implementation models, and grant management and reporting requirements. The project team also conducted a baseline assessment survey in Alaverdi, Sisian, Goris, and Meghri regions to define the baseline data and identify project priority indicators. The survey included household surveys, child medical reviews, adolescent surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews. The results of the baseline assessment will help the project team to set realistic targets and indicators for the project implementation. The project team also visited health departments, health care facilities, and presented the project goals and activities to local health authorities, rural administration, and school principals. The project team also met with USAID AOTR and project staff to discuss project implementation details, including baseline assessment, work plan, and M&E plan. The project team identified the need to focus on community mobilization and involve communities in decision-making processes. The project also aims to rely on community feedback and involve them in the project implementation. The project team recommended additional indicators, including indicators related to maternal and child health, child health, and breastfeeding. The project team also discussed the need to print educational materials based on the feedback from monitoring visits and monitoring visits will be conducted to assess the project progress. The project team also discussed the need to finalize the annual work plan and M&E plan with partners.
