The International Livestock Center for Africa (ILCA) underwent a major transition in 1987 with its acceptance by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and its adoption of a new "thrust-based" research strategy focused on collaborative research in a limited number of commodities, species, zones, and target groups.

This annual report outlines progress made in six research areas: (1) cattle milk and meat; (2) small ruminant milk and meat; (3) animal traction; (4) animal feed resources; (5) trypanotolerance; and (6) livestock policy and resource use. A review of training and information dissemination activities over the year is also included. Includes 39 tables and 19 figures.
