INTERNATIONAL IRRIGATION MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE (IIMI)

Abstract
Results indicate that rehabilitation had substantial overall impacts on increasing the irrigated area and decreasing the irrigation supply per unit area. Though the impacts of rehabilitation on productivity are indirect, a large increase in productivity was also seen after rehabilitation. It was also evident that improvements in performance of these indicators in the Left Bank did not result from physical or institutional improvements in isolation from each other. Physical improvements significantly helped expand the irrigation area, but at the same time helped increase the water use per unit area and total volumes released. Institutional improvements helped offset the excess releases that were possible due to physical improvements. Includes references. (Author abstract, modified)
