Abstract
This report reviews two programs which have been implemented in order to reverse this trend: demonstrations of proper bus and taxi maintenance and operation; and a public information and awareness campaign. The opening chapter presents a detailed description of the project including its internal and institutional structure, consultants, data management methods, and implementation plan. The taxi and bus demonstration programs, each of which included use of radial tires and driver training, are described next, followed by discussion of the public information and education campaign, which relied on mass media coverage, seminars, special newspaper supplements, demonstration reports, and brochures. Chapter five presents the results of the programs and related accomplishments and weighs the project"s costs and benefits. A sector level assessment and recommendations are presented in the final chapter. The report contains 29 exhibits; included in appendices are a description of driver energy conservation awareness training and a fuel test report.
