The dissertation pursues the hypothesis that there are institutional determinants of technical innovation and productivity growth in agricultural development.

These institutional determinants can be isolated and their effect on the inducement mechanism identified. The degree of flexibility of these institutional determinants establishes the optimal direction for input substitution.
