Abstract
A U.S. university will help the Ministry of Rural Development"s Livestock Service implement the project. For detailed information, see the abstracts of the individual SP"s. Grant amendment of 12/19/86 revises project purpose; the new purpose is to develop a policy analysis capability within the Directorate of Studies and Programming (DEP) of the Ministry of Animal Resources (MAR). Skills to be developed at the DEP include economics, financial analysis, computer systems, veterinary epidemiology, statistics, and survey methodology. Strong institutional linkages between policymaking and this information and analytical base will be established. The project will also continue to develop: a national livestock market information gathering system; a thermostable vaccine against rinderpest; and an Early Warning System to monitor the availability of forage for livestock. Activities under the Herder Organization, Human Resources Development, and Project Management components will be terminated or phased out. (PD-AAW-435)
