Abstract
Evaluation covers the period 1/76-9/80; no methodology is specified. Construction at the Mona and Cave Hill campuses is virtually complete. Eight facilities were constructed at Mona - a greenhouse, a zoology laboratory, an interfaculty classroom center, a central analytical and food science laboratory, administrative offices, arts and general studies offices, an electronics workshop, and a printshop. Construction at Cave Hill included an administration building/library extension, a biology laboratory addition, and a language laboratory and learning resource center. Construction at St. Augustine was delayed by a concurrent Government of Trinidad and Tobago expansion program and the need to revise plans to avoid duplication. Expected completion date of the Cardi/Agriculture building is 11/80; the proposed library extension will not be finished by 3/30/81. As of 6/30/80, 87% of the Mona allotment, 94% of the Cave Hill allotment, and 35% of the St. Augustine allotment had been committed or expended. A.I.D. and UWI are jointly funding a $1 million scholarship program in education, economics, public administration, engineering, agriculture, management, and nursing. The program has been highly successful and has enhanced UMI"s relevance to regional development. Due to administrative problems, no disbursements have been made to provide opporunities for UWI faculty and staff to upgrade their skills or to provide training in utilization and maintenance of project facilities. However, half of the $2,000,000 allotment is expected to be spent by 12/81. An extension of the project is recommended to complete the additions to the St. Augustine library.
