AIDS must be addressed as much more than just a medical problem in Africa; because the disease is distributed predominantly among working age adults, it has a significant effect on performance in Africa"s productive sectors.

Abstract
This document contains a series of eight briefs to help sectoral planners and program managers to integrate HIV/AIDS awareness into planning related to commercial agriculture; subsistence agriculture; education; health; manufacturing; tourism; mining; and military populations. Each brief examines the subject sector, explains how and why participants within the sector are vulnerable to infection, discusses the impact of the disease on many facets of the sector, such as worker productivity, employee benefits, replacement costs, and staff morale; and then devises a sectoral response. The briefs also include references useful in the planning process.
