Abstract
It discusses the role of pollution prevention in a broad-based environmental management program, and provides businesses with practical information on how to approach and implement a pollution prevention program. The intended audience comprises owners, managers, and responsible employees of public and private industrial enterprises. Chapter 1 introduces the concept of pollution prevention and examines the reasons for it. Chapter 2 discusses the pollution prevention assessment methodology developed by the United Nations Environmental Programme. Chapter 3 presents the Environmental Pollution Prevention Project (EP3) assessment methodology and several case studies conducted at industrial facilities participating in EP3. Chapter 4 illustrates issues and methodologies for calculating the financial benefits of pollution prevention opportunities.
