Abstract
dispute resolution and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) by the Dean of School of Law, University of San Francisco. One roundtable was organized with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOL) Legal Department, and the other was held at the University of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (ULSA). Key personnel from Development Alternatives International (DAI) traveled to Vietnam in June 2010. A DAI management information system development specialist provided training on the Technical Area Management Information System (Thesis) to SIIR staff in Hanoi for one week. The Technical Area Manager/Project Technical Lead from DAI/HO also arrived in Hanoi to meet the project team and receive a briefing on the project approval process and progress. The project welcomed an external expert from the University of San Francisco to work on the project for two months and conduct research on dispute resolution and other IR-related issues. In the same month, the project director and technical staff met with the Vietnam Confederation of Labor to revise previously discussed activities and agreed to update and revise activity areas, mainly on advisory services, ADR-related work, and institutional training and capacity building. The program specialist had a follow-up meeting with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) to map out activity areas and schedule follow-up meetings to discuss the implementation of planned activities. The specialist also met with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to discuss cooperation extension between VCCI and other implementing partners. Ideas on collaboration with the MOLISA inspectorate on self-inspection and third-party monitoring were proposed. The SIIR project worked with the MOL Legal Department to initiate and conduct an assessment survey on the implementation capacity of labor laws. A draft questionnaire was prepared by SIIR and MOL staff and tested. To carry out the activity on evaluation of stakeholders' capacity on ADR in July, SIIR prepared for the evaluation of national consultants, developed a provisional schedule, and identified a US-based ADR specialist as the first international consultant.
