Grant is provided under the Technical Support for Energy and the Environment project (5960162) to the Central American Research Institute for Industry (ICAITI) to provide training and TA in programs to involve the private sector in power development.

Abstract

Funds will also be used to better orient public utilities to market realities and assist them in demand management, as well as to develop an overall energy strategy for the Central American region. Resulting improvements in energy policy, strategy, and end-use, along with new private sector power supplies, should help rationalize electric usage and significantly reduce public funding requirements for new electric generation projects.
